driveway and roadway construction

The temperature extremes in Central Oregon can wreak havoc on driveways and parking lots. During the winter, constant freezing and thawing can cause concrete and asphalt to fracture and crack to the point that they become dangerous. While gravel isn’t as susceptible to damage from cold temperatures, it can become wash boarded and removing snow can be difficult.

Whether your driveway or parking lot requires some routine maintenance, or needs to be replaced entirely, we have all the tools and decades of unmatched experience to get the job done right.

driveway and parking lot materials

The most common materials for driveways and parking lots are gravel, asphalt, and concrete. Each material comes at a different price and with it’s own set of advantages and disadvantages.

Gravel

The least expensive surface material for your driveway or parking lot is gravel. Just because it’s cheap however, isn’t to say that it doesn’t have advantages over other materials.
Even though most gravel is gray, it’s available in other colors like pink, marble, tan, and granite.

Another advantage is that freezing and thawing doesn’t affect gravel. Even though snow removal can be a little more difficult, the yearly maintenance is much less costly than that of asphalt or concrete.

Lastly, there’s no waiting period after gravel is installed. It’s ready for use right away.

Asphalt

Asphalt is the most common surface for driveways and parking lots.

Even though it’s slightly more expensive than gravel, asphalt has its own distinct advantages.

First, it can last up to 20 years when properly cared for. More than concrete, asphalts flexibility makes it less prone to damage from freezing and thawing.

Asphalt also allows us to paint directional markings or parking spot lines. This process is simple and only requires resealing every two to three years.

Concrete

Concrete is the most durable material for driveways and parking lots and can last up to 40 years. It’s also the most expensive.

Even though concrete is gray by nature, both its color and texture can be customized to your liking.

Once concrete has dried, we recommend waiting seven days before driving on it.

There’s plenty of options to choose from when it comes to driveways and parking lots. Whether you need some small repairs, resurfacing, or an install, we’re here to answer all your questions and help you make the best decision for your project’s needs in Central Oregon.
